Kevin Ledo’s paintings often flirt with prevalent persuasive imagery and ideologies. Having once been a devout catholic and later educated as an illustrator, his work investigates perceptions of idealism, beauty and divinity. Recent bodies of work include “The Guiding Light”, “Desire” and "A Vision in the Night," which celebrate and scrutinize persuasive content and imagery of women found mass media.
In the series “The Guiding Light”, persuasion through seduction and unattainable perfection is the focus. This body of work draws parallels between luxury fashion institutions and medieval religious authorities of the past and their comparable use of icon worship. In the tradition of religious iconography, the works are painted on wood panel with gold leaf auras and halos encircling the figures of the modern icons.
Kevin Ledo's influences include artists such as Alphonse Mucha and Chuck Close as well as his fellow Montreal artists OMEN and Jason Botkin. Ledo resides in Montreal where he participates in a vibrant artistic culture and is a member in the En Masse Collective. Ledo has been featured in Juxtapoz, Cool Hunting and numerous other publications. Ledo's paintings are internationally collected and have been on display in Taiwan, Canada and the United States.
