Kristian Adam

Born on August 18, 1978, in Edmonton, Alberta. Studied art and graphic design at Grande Prairie Regional College and the University of Lethbridge.

Anatomy has fascinated me since childhood. I lived on a small farm growing up which is where I first started drawing. I would sometimes draw our horses, paying close attention to their musculature and skeleton. Ive always been attracted to the details in things because of the challenge and the journey. In high school I began airbrushing portraits of friends and family but eventually grew bored finding little room for imagination or self-growth. Eventually I began combining the knowledge of all those renderings I did into works of my own which I paint without direct reference. The challenge of painting without reference and striving for realism as it exists in my mind, has allowed me to manifest my most unique creations.

The landscapes and environments I paint are a fusion of the people, places and things ive been most effected by. Ive always found the biology of humans myste rious even though science is becoming more effective at answering our questions. I avoid the stereotypical and formulaic ways of thinking because I am striving for that same mystery in my work. Imagination wants to flourish where there are hints of uncertainty, and imagination is the key to progress.

I think it is important for humans to realize their biological roots and to understand they are a part of nature, not separate. I hope to convey through wit and seriousness, a unique dimension of man and woman’s relationship with each other and their environment and provoke thought and preservation of the places and things we love?.
