Jennifer Chernecki
Bio

Jennifer Chernecki is a method painter. She tends to paint her life or live her paintings. She spent much of her education studying Surrealist processes and methods. Her newest work, "I Won't Worry If You Don't (She's Still So Mad)" was created using the Paranoiac - Critical method of Surrealism.  (This process was utilized and theorized by the Spaniard Salvador Dali and maintains a very strong interest in Freudian theory.) Simply put, it is double imaging, relying on two seemingly inherent aspects of human nature: Paranoia and Creativity. The piece was originally (6 years ago) started as a working through of contemporary ideas of schizophrenia, or more specifically, an investigation into the signifier - signified relationship and how that corresponds within our ideals of modern mental illness.

The painting was left for many years and the artist only recently began working back into it. What has developed is far more interesting, as the underlying themes are still prevalent, but also there has begun a new circumstance as not only the two separate image layers are interacting but also so are the various phases of the artist's development, wonder and interest.
